Latest squad info:
Brian Wardle, Ross Hunter, Alex Lacy have all resigned. Only Hugh Ward still to resign. David Meechan has been out with a few other clubs but no offers as yet, still training with Vale. New faces include former Dumbarton skipper Toby King who has been signed from Cowdenbeath and young striker Derek Forbes of Kilpatrick u21. Despite agreeing to sign Chris Smith from Maryhill the club have cooled on the deal.

John"Chummy" Gilmour was captain of that famous Vale side that lifted the Scottish Cup in 1953. A former Junior internationalist he was a welcome visitor at Millburn on his many golfing breaks back home before his sad death a few years back. 9 of that cup winning side helped us celebrate our golden jubilee in 1989 and some of the stories were amazing. Only Willie Cassidy is still a regular at junior games these days through his long association with his hometown side Johnstone Burgh.

As young Meechan has already intimated, it is not about money, he just wants to perform on a bigger stage. Unfortunately his likely exit means that a replacement has to be sought, if that replacement means that we have to buy from another club then thats the way it is. If we had failed to look for a replacement then we would have been criticised. At present we have two strikers lined up with deals struck but until the players signatures are on the forms they cannot be revealed.

Big Tam, are you thick? Meechan has chosen not to sign for the Vale as he wants a crack at the superleague(and quite rightly so). Maybe if nobody comes in for him(which i doubt) or he can't agree terms with a club, then he may wish to come back to the Millburn

Sorry for lack of updates but Hugh Hamill is on holiday. No new faces have as yet been added to the squad although plenty have been approached, it seems that they are awaiting offers from bigger clubs. As far as I know a top striker has been approached and an offer made to his club, we await to hear if our bid has been acceptable.
On the David Meechan front a couple of clubs have enquired and are speaking to him.

Preseson training starts on Glasgow Fair Monday hopefully we will have more encouraging news by then.

Top scorer for the past two seasons DAVID MEECHAN has today been placed on the transfer list at his own request. There has been no fall out over money as suggested earlier, the young striker simply wants to prove himself at a higher level. The club would like to wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts over the past two and a half seasons.

Basically Meechan has been made an offer to re-sign the same as everyone else, some chose to accept some donít. Some could get more money elsewhere but have shown a bit more loyalty than Meechan is showing.
On his game he is without doubt our best player but when not on his game I would be of more use up front than him. In saying that he has had far more good games than bad games and would be missed but not irreplaceable. Players come players go, if he decides to move on then it will be his own decision as the club want him to stay and achieve our aim of a place in the Super league.
As yet he is not officially on the transfer list as we hope to meet him again next week.

Iím sure supporters would want him to stay but the club cannot be held to ransom.

From last season squad the following players have signed again for the new season: Alan Brown, Matthew Maclaurin, Brian Deeley, Bryan Boal, Scott McKernan, Brian Smith, Jim Meechan, Dougie Wilson. Ross Hunter, Alex Lacy and Brian Wardle has still to speak to the club. Unfortunately David Meechan has decided not to resign and along with Chris Dalrymple has been made available for transfer.

Hugh Hamill is in discussions with several other players with a few to coming to the club next season.

As regards to Hugh and Jimmy, yes they can work together as they have shown in the past. Both have good and bad points but I would say much more good than bad. It is all very well hiding behind the anonymity of a web site perhaps if "A FAN" could post his real name then we could judge if he is indeed a real fan.

Although the cup runs were great it was a very disappointing season in terms of league results as our original aim was to get into the top three to enter the new superleagues. Unfortunately we have been up against sides spending daft sums of money to get into the top three. We don't have the same finances and never will, however we could do better but more people are required to help out on the committee to raise funds. All money we generate is spent on the team, if we had the people to generate some extra revenue then we could afford better players. Too often all we seem to hear is criticism of the team and manager, what we need is a more positive response. Whilst we can understand fans frustrations they are no more than our own, perhaps if we had a little more help then we could do a little more.

young Meeky has missed the final four games of the season due to picking up 18 penalty points over the course of the season. Having only won one of our last six games the loss of both Meeky and Wardle has left us in a difficult situation. Full credit to the players against Lesmahagow they were all outstanding.

As a player with Kilsyth Rangers, and a local (nearly) I think you have got a good outfit and website. But a do agree with the comment about the diddy's on the side-line shouting abuse - not just at me but at your boys too. Give the guys some encouragement, and stick to shouting abuse at me! Crowds do make a difference - so lay off meeky - he's kept the team in many games and is a good player, no matter his attitude.

good win yesterday boys much needed. but im getting a bit pissed off at the so called fans who shout at the players. what they shout dosent help the boys on the pitch. the guy who was shouting at goodie in the second half only came into the ground 5 mins beforehand some supporter. you never hear any positive shouts coming from the crowd. come on boys try getting BEHIND the team your pish shouts are not helping.

Remember a good Vale team when I was a lad, and supported Duntocher Hibs, in the 50s, a Val Flacherty, and a Gailey, (spelling)! Good luck in the future. Also knew a Hugh Hamill from North Kilbowie, Clydebank?

I have been admiring the activity on the guest list with a great deal of interest. I can't believe the criticism aimed at young meeky. Why would we want to sell our top scorer, ok he may not always be a team player but he certainly is a flair player and every team needs flair. He may be a bit greedy at times but show me a striker that isn't. I know that all the coaching staff have shown great patience with him and he can be frustrating but lets give him every encouragement. To blame him for losing the Linlithgow tie because of his penatly miss is pretty poor, at least he had the guts to take it. Lets encourage talent. Over the past two seasons he has been dropped on numerous occasions, for good reason I may add, but he has hardly missed a night training or failed to turn up - others can't say the same!
Sell him? we can only do that if someone wants to buy him.

Gowser for all his experience seems to be 2nd choice to Jim Meechan and Wardle and at the end of the day wants to be playing and is obviously unhappy at not doing so. Hopefully he will be back soon.

In relation to team selections it is all very well being wise after the event, we can all have our views on the best team but I would have thought that the side picked to play the Burgh was the strongest available. Sometimes we get carried away and think that we are better that we are, we have beaten the likes of Kilwinning and suddenly we think we should be winning every week. The players we have are the best available on our budget and perhaps if those people who are adding to the lively discussion on this guest book could help generate some extra revenue then we could do so much more.

I'm sure that if any fan/supporter or "whoever" has a genuine gripe about any point or team selection then I would be only to happy to get an answer for you.

Keep supporting the site.

Angus

good to see lively debate.reason gowser has gone would you sit on the bench after what happened at the bens and no action taken who says nobody is bigger than the team .it is not a question of selling more of does he want to stay meeky will go .have also not noticed that team spirit has dropped to .that was a great factor in the big games. what about new faces that were promised a long time a go .who will come now?

does anyone agree with the idiot who thinks youg meeky should be sold? i personally think we should try and keep cos he has been a good player for s and has been top scorer for the past 2 seasons, and he is only 20 years old so he will only ge better if people get off his back and believe in him.

LETS NOT FORGET THAT WE ONLY WENT OUT OF THE SCOTTISH BECAUSE OF A PENALTY MISS BY ONE OF OUR SO CALLED 'BETTER' PLAYERS. THE TEAM JST DONT SEEM TO PLAY VERY GOOD WHEN YOUNG MEECKY PLAYS I THINK WE SHOULD CUT OUR LOSSES AND SELL HIM AT THE END OF THE SEASON.

Let's not forget that the Vale are only a first division team but have reached the semis of the west and the 5th rd of the scottish, where Linlithgow put them out and are now in the final.

p-off; ok i'll concede that hunter may have been a better bet than bole on the night. neither of them have played much recently. Hunter would certainly haveadded a bit of fight. Wardle for me is a better partner for Meeky than Gow, didn't see gow at the game.
I don't suppose that the long ball was the managers choice it just seemed that was the way the players chose to clear their lines. Vale are a much better team than Fridays showing.
Lets give the boys some credit and encouragement for the last few games.

why does everyone write into this page mstly to slag off the team when the boys are out there tryin there best, for people to slag of the players is out of order, the boys tried there best on friday i think that was obvious to anyone that was at the game, i agree though about the way we play the high ball to the forwards but i dont think its right to slag off hughie hamill evry time you come on this page. c'mon the pale al.

p-off. have to agree with some of what you say. Baz did not look fit and our best midfield is Hunter Brown Smith and Deely. only change i would have made was hunter for Boal. Broonie did not have one of his better games.

yes I was at the game and it was so obvious that if any team was going to score it was not the vale .I would not have played wardle boal wilson would have played gow hunter mckernan if his tactics were so good why did alan brown stay on the park when the game was passing him bye still no surprise there .take off blinkers that game could and should have been won .long balls to small front men does not win matches.

p-off -- were you at the game? give the boys some credit and stop moaning. Tactics were fine and hamill even made a couple of tactical switches that nullified the burgh no.7 and then pushed big brian up front and we got an equaliser from his header on. Burgh got lucky with their winning goal with a shot that looked to be on its way to the safeway car park until someone stuck out a foot to deflect the ball into the net.

Time for change? what would you change?

Jimmy's got it wrong. Not only is the website great so is the team. Note his location is Johnstone - what a co-incidence. We'll do them on Friday as well. Vale for the cup!Pity about the Bens game. Internal squabbling cost us the game.
