On Saturday 3rd Vale travel down to Portland Park to take on Troon in the quarter final of the Whyte & Mackay West of Scotland Cup. Both sides were beaten semi finalists last season and with Troon doing well in the Super League Vale are no doubt in for a difficult match. Whilst Vale have had to cram in 3 games this week Troon have not had a competitive fixture in over two weeks so should be in a refreshed state for this important game. Supporters wishing to travel to Troon should note that the bus will leave Gilmour Street at noon.

Next Wednesday Vale entertain Kilsyth Rangers at Millburn in a match that could see the visitors crowned league champions.

11/04/2003 - AGM DATE

27/02/2003 - FOX RETURNS
Midfielder TOM FOX has today resigned for the club after spending the past year touring Australia. The youngster who came off the bench last week will come into contention for a starting place in the side against Maryhill on Saturday as ALAN BROWN has been ruled out with a badly bruised foot.

17/02/2003 - Peter McLean rejoins the Vale
Re-joining Vale this week is former favourite Peter McLean who is joining Jimmy Brown to assist Hugh Hamill with coaching duties. Peter who spent 13 years at Millburn where he was player of the year twice played 298 games for the club before taking up coaching with Polaroid, Dumbarton u21's and latterly Dumbarton Accies.

17/02/2003 - Match news
Vale Juniors again lost out to the weather with the heavy overnight frost ruling Millburn unplayable. The pitch was in excellent order on Wednesday after being rolled, however children playing on the pitch on Friday had left the ground badly rutted leaving the referee no option but to call the game off.

The cancellation of all the fixtures means that this week's League Cup tie against Maryhill has had to be cancelled as the Lochburn Park side face Petershill in the 5th round of the OVD Scottish Junior cup. Instead Vale will play hosts to St. Roch's in the league, kick off at Millburn is 2pm. The sides met at Provanmill a month ago with Vale winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Ward, David Meechan and McKernan. Vale will be without the suspended McKernan and Rogers as well as Bryan Boal who is getting married.

Congratulations to Bryan Boal, soon to be married

15/02/2003 - Match off due to frozen pitch
The referee has called off the Vale of Leven - Vale of Clyde game due to a frozen pitch.

Vale travelled down to Ravenscraig today only to have their match cancelled by the referee an hour before kick off due to a waterlogged pitch. Although the ground was deemed playable early in the morning the constant rain leading up to Vale arriving meant that the referee had no option but to call the match off leaving Vale well out of pocket again.

07/02/2003 - DEELEY RELEASED
Vale today released veteran midfielder Brian Deeley. The experienced player has rejoined the amatuer ranks with St.Pat's. after lengthy service at Vale.

03/02/2003 - Match news
This week Vale are again on league duty they travel to face Greenock at Ravenscraig Stadium, kick off 2pm. Supporters should note that the bus departs Gilmour Street at noon.

The following week Vale are at home to Vale of Clyde (2pm kick off) and after that Maryhill visit Millburn in the first round of the League Cup.

23/01/2003 - BROWN FREED
Vale have today released defender ANTON BROWN to allow him to join Milngavie Wanderers. The youngster who only joined from Kilpatrick Juv's during the summer has failed to stake a claim for a regular place in the team due to the fine form of Kevin Goodwin.

20/01/2003 - Match news
This week Vale return to league duty when they travel to Glasgow to take on St.Roch's at Provanmill Park, kick off 2pm. Bus departs Gilmour Street at noon.

16/01/2003 - Friendly Win Over Cardross
Vale returned to action after the recent freeze with a convincing win over local side Cardross at the Helensburgh astroturf. The 7-1 win achieved in a constant downpour was the ideal preparation for Saturdays forthcoming Scottish Cup match against Renfrew. Vale goals came from Smith (2), Boal and second half subs McKernan and David Meechan (3).

14/01/2003 - Home Cup Ties for Vale
Vale have been handed a home tie against Super league side SHOTTS BON ACCORD in the last sixteen of the Whyte & Mackay West of Scotland cup. Similarly they have been given a home tie against another Super league side in the Central League cup when MARYHILL visit Millburn. Dates to be advised.

14/01/2003 - Renfrew match postponed - will try again this Saturday
Vale Juniors OVD Scottish Junior Cup 4th round tie at home to Renfrew was postponed early on Saturday morning and will now go ahead this Saturday at Millburn, kick off 1-45. The visitors, who like Vale reached the last 16 last season last season, will be gunning for Hugh Hamill's men after Vale dumped them from the West of Scotland Cup at Western Park in November by a solitary Brian Smith strike.

The extra week will have given former Vale top scorer Jim "Tiger" McNally time to recover from injury and he will probably start against his former side alongside former Hibs youngster Ritchie Barr. The Renfrewshire side won the trophy just two years ago and are highly fancied to win this one despite Vales success last time out. Hopefully Vales large Scottish Cup support can turn out in force to help spur their team to the next round.

With the exception of Dougie Wilson Vale will be at full strength.

11/01/2003 - MEECHAN RETURNS
As revealed in today's Evening Times Vale have resigned DAVID MEECHAN from Largs Thistle. Vales top scorer for the past two seasons elected to try his luck in the Super league but perhaps chose the wrong club to display his undoubted talent. With the player cup tied for both Scottish & West competitions he faces a difficult task in displacing Hugh Ward who would appear to be in top form at present. Young midfielder Jim George moves in the opposite direction to join his father at Largs after only briefly featuring in Vales squad this season due to work commitments.

06/01/2003 - Match called off / team news for Scottish Cup
Vale Juniors Abercorn Builders Central District scheduled league match against league leaders Kilsyth Rangers was cancelled due to Millburn being declared unplayable on Saturday morning. With the entire fixture list wiped out, it was hardly the best of preparation for this coming weeks big OVD Scottish Junior Cup 4th round tie at home to Super league side Renfrew, kick off 1.45pm. With no SPL football and the Sons away at Berwick, Vale are hopeful that a large local support can cheer the side through to the next round.

Boss Hugh Hamill should have star of the last round Ross Hunter fit again after he missed out against Vale of Clyde but managed a full training session on Saturday. Both Kevin Goodwin and skipper Alex Lacy have recovered from illness and will be in their usual places in defence. Renfrew will be without the services of midfielder Andy McKenna who still has one game of his two match ban to serve after being ordered off against Vale in the West of Scotland cup in November.

27/12/2002 - Wee Gers First foot
Vale will start the New Year with two home fixtures. On Saturday 4th January runaway league leaders KILSYTH RANGERS will be Vale "First Foot", kick off 1-45. The following week Vale are again at home when Renfrew visit in the Scottish.

24/12/2002 - Match postponed
Vale Juniors Abercorn Builders Central District league match against Glasgow Perthshire was cancelled due to Millburn being declared unplayable at 10-15 on Saturday morning. With the Glasgow side unwilling to await a later inspection the match off signs meant a 100% failure rate across the West of Scotland Region. As the thaw continued Millburn was perfectly playable by the scheduled 1-45 kick off and Vale managed to put in a full training session. Good news for Vale boss Hugh Hamill is the imminent return to training of Dougie Wilson after his serious injury in the friendly against Largs 6 weeks ago. With several crucial games coming up in the next few weeks it is a big boost to have him back in the plans.

This week Vale will travel up to Tollcross to take on Vale of Clyde at Fullarton Park in a league match, supporters should note that the bus leaves at 11-30am.

The 4th round draw for the OVD Scottish Junior Cup took place in Glasgow last week and at long last Vale have been drawn at home. Super league side Renfrew, who Vale recently knocked out of the West of Scotland Cup, will travel to Millburn on Saturday 11th January, kick off 1-45.

Dougie Wilson will soon return to training
Dougie Wilson will soon return to training
18/12/2002 - Next up - Glasgow Perthshire
This week Vale return to league duty when last seasons form team GLASGOW PERTHSHIRE visit Millburn, kick off 1-45pm. The Glasgow side withdrew from the Scottish Cup in controversial circumstances a fortnight ago and last week had a convincing 5-0 win over Lesmahagow so Vale will need to be at their best to win.

The club have received a fresh order of club fleeces just in time for Christmas. These are available for only 25 and are an ideal gifts. Get yours when Santa visits on Saturday.

17/12/2002 - ovd 4th round draw
The draw took place early this morning and at long last Vale have received their first home tie of the season. Super League side RENFREW will make the short trip hoping to avenge last months West of Scorland Cup defeat by Vale at Western Park. The tie will take place on Saturday 11th January, 1-45pm kick off.

11/12/2002 - Scottish Junior Cup third round tie
Vale of Leven's OVD Scottish Junior Cup third round match at Govan was cancelled on Saturday morning due to frost making the Benburb pitch unplayable. An early morning inspection by the match referee deemed the pitch unplayable with the home side seemingly not unduly worried due to several injuries restricting their team selection.

Several Vale supporters, having travelled by car, viewed the pitch and could hardly believe that the game was off. With the sides a short journey apart, surely a later inspection could have been carried out. Unfortunately the week's cancellation means that Vale must go into the tie without key player Brian Smith who is on honeymoon for the next few weeks. With Paul Barton suspended and Dougie Wilson injured Vale boss Hugh Hamill is hoping to spring a surprise with the addition of one new face to his squad in time for Saturday.

Supporters are reminded that the bus leaves Gilmour Street at noon and that there are plenty of seats available.

07/12/2002 - OVD MATCH OFF

03/12/2002 - BUS TO BENBURB
The club will be running a bus to Tinto Park for Saturdays OVD Scottish Cup match. Seats are still available and supporters should note that the bus leaves Gilmour Street at noon prompt.

29/11/2002 - Team news for Blantyre
This week Vale are at home on league duty when BLANTYRE VICS visit Millburn, kick off 1-45. Ross Hunter will be available as his ordering off at Renfrew was only a double caution. Unfortunately Paul Barton sits out due to an automatic two match ban.

This week Vale will need to improve dramatically if they are to take anything from the difficult trip to face league leaders KILSYTH RANGERS at Duncansfield, kick off 2pm. After a difficult close season in which they lost half a team Kilsyth have made their best start to the season in a long time and lead the table with 6 wins out of 6 scoring 29 goals.

For the forthcoming visit to Burghead the club are sorry to inform fans that the bus is now fully booked.

Any supporter wishing to travel must contact Angus Wallace 0141 840 1556 before Sunday.

02/09/2002 - Match & transfer news
This Saturday Vale travel to meet East Kilbride Thistle at the Show Park, bus leaves Gilmour Street at 12-30pm prompt. Thistle defeated Vale home and away last season and are most people's tips to win the league even at this early stage of the season. With the exception of the injured Bryan Boal and the holidaying Hugh Ward Vale will have a full squad to pick from.

Vale boss Hugh Hamill beat the signing deadline on Saturday evening to land experienced Beith striker Jim Carse. The ex Ayr United and Neilston player will not be available however for another couple of weeks due to work commitments. Another new face is young midfielder Jim George, son of former Yoker, Petershill, Pollok, Dumbarton and Dumbarton Accies boss Jim George who is now boss at Largs Thistle. 26/08/2002 - Match news

In the quarter finals of the Beatons Coaches Sectional League Cup Vale will travel to meet Super League side Neilston at Brig O'lea on Saturday 21st September.

Vale will include Beith striker Jimmy Carse as a trialist as well as giving Welsh under 18 cap Kevin Percy a chance now that International clearance has been received from the Welsh FA.

Vale tonight agreed to sign Kilbirnie Ladeside midfielder GRAHAM McKENZIE after his successful debut against Yoker on Wednesday evening. The player will feature tomorrow against Port Glasgow at Millburn where Hugh Ward hopes to make his 100th appearance.

Vale's preparations have been far from ideal with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Beith last Tuesday with Scott McKernan netting Vales goal and on the Thursday a youthful Kilmarnock side won 6-2 at Millburn with Dougie Wilson and Jim Meechan scoring for Vale. Saturdays away fixture agianst Civil Service Strollers was cancelled due to the heavy rain after Vale had made the lengthy journey through to the east coast.

On the player front top scorer David Meechan has finally moved on to join Largs Thistle who the following week sacked their management team. Vale have added to last years squad with new signings defender Anton Brown(Kilpatrick), midfielder Toby King (Cowdenbeath), keeper David Rogers (Yoker Athletic) and striker Derek Forbes (Kilpatrick). 25/02/2002 - Match news
Vale of Leven Juniors 3rd round "Whyte & Mackay" West of Scotland Cup clash at home to Premier Division LANARK UNITED was a victim of the weather at the weekend with Millburn snowbound. Hugh Hamill organised a training session at the Meadow Centre to maintain his sides fitness levels as Vale hope to bounce back from three successive defeats. The cancellation meant that Thomas Fox missed the chance to play his last game before departing for Australia this week. The talented midfielder will be back sometime next year to resume his career at Millburn.

The Lanark match will hopefully go ahead this week at Millburn, kick off 2-30. Hopefully both Jim Meechan and Bryan Boal will have recovered from injury but Dougie Wilson is still ruled out. Vale will be out to avenge their earlier Sectional League Cup 1/4 final defeat at Moore Park when the home side won 2-1.

One of the favourites to land the trophy this season, 'Rose had a confidence boosting 8-1 win over Dunbar last week and will be keen to grab a quarter final spot by disposing of Vale. 28/01/2002 - Match news
The Scottish Cup 5th round will see Vale of Leven meet Linlithgow Rose at Millburn Park on Saturday, 9th February, kick off 2-15pm. The big spending east region side are one of the favourites to land the trophy this season but Vale and Brian Deeley in particular will be out to make amends for Vale's 4th round exit at Prestonfield in January 1998. With the tie evenly balanced Vale had Deeley sent off for a needless double caution and after Vale skipper Billy Troup put his spot kick over the bar the home side ran out comfortable 4-1 winners despite Paul McGrogan scoring the goal of the game. Vale survivors from that match are Dennison, Lacy, Smith, Deeley & McKernan.

In the Rose attack will be a familiar adversary in Jim Creaney, the diminutive striker was man of the match as Kilwinning beat Vale in a 4th round replay at Millburn in January 1997 and 2 years later he starred as Arthurlie beat Vale 5-1 in a third round tie at Dunterlie. Now plying his trade in the east, he will be hoping to add to his goal tally for the season although Vale will be hoping to keep their unbeaten home record. Supporters are asked not to bring alcohol to the game as per association rules.

This Saturday Vale travel to Glasgow to meet league leaders Shettleston at Greenfield, kick off 2pm. Bus departs Gilmour Street at noon.

21/01/2002 - 4th round replay this Saturday
The 4th round replay against Kelty Hearts takes place this Saturday at Millburn Park, kick off 1.15pm. Hugh Hamill's side will be hoping for a larger than normal home support to cheer on the Millburn men to a place in the last 16. At stake is another home tie against cup favourites Linlithgow Rose on 9th February. If both sides play as they played on Saturday then the hopefully large support will be in for a cracking match.

Kelty will still consider themselves favourites for the right to meet Linlithgow and can play much better than they played on Saturday but Vale too can be confident now that they are getting everyone fit again. Dougie Wilson will still be missing due to injury and it will be a late fitness test for Bryan Boal but hopefully he will be fit to run himself to a standstill yet again.

Vale have met Pumpherston three times in the past. In 1967 goals from George Docherty (2) and George Masse gave Vale a 3-2 home 3rd round win. Vale would like to take this opportunity to wish all their supporters a very Merry Christmas and a good New Year.

29/10/2001 - Dunipace league clash
This week Vale travel to Dunipace in the league, kick off 2pm. Having failed to win any off their six away games this season, the last three of which were in the league, Vale must start to pick up away points if they are to renew their promotion hopes.
