Without a competitive fixture Vale arranged a friendly against Annbank United but unfortunately the Ayrshire side could not field a team so Largs Thistle stepped in at the last minute. The Super League's bottom side side, bossed by ex Dumbarton Accies manager Jim George, came to Millburn and included two ex-Vale players in Steven Gow and David Meechan. Vale boss Hugh Hamill used the fixture to give match practice to several players who had not started recently but unfortunately two goal Dougie Wilson could be out for some time after a quite shocking tackle from a Largs defender who eventually saw red. The home side outplayed the Ayrshire side for most of the game with Wards cross from the left creating a goal for Wilson after 25 minutes. Nine minutes into the second half McKenzie's fine run and cross from the right saw Wilson convert at the near post. Largs pulled a goal back 20 minutes from time but within two minutes top scorer Hugh Ward restored the two goal margin with a delightful chip from 40 yards that beat Vale keeper David Rogers who was guesting for Largs. |
![]() A double for Dougie Wilson & another goal for Hugh Ward.
