Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 2-0 Vale Of Leven
Rob Roy: GALLAGHER 40 mins & O'DONNELL 49 mins
Man of the Match: Jim Meechan
Saturday 26th October, 2002. Kick off: 3.00pm
Adamslie Park.
Abercorn Builders Central District Division 1

One thing about Vale is that they totally unpredictable, having just put in a fine win over Lanark they then proceeded to serve up their poorest performance for a long time at rain lashed Adamslie on Saturday. When they are performing there is no better side in the division, but as to how they can go from one extreme to the other defies logic. In fact a two nil defeat flattered them as Rob Roy wasted several good chances as well as hitting the crossbar twice.

Vale started with the side that took the points last week and they were boosted with the appearance on the bench of Boal and McKenzie after long term injury.

The sides kicked off in ideal conditions and the home side were first to threaten when after only three minutes O'Donnell found himself in acres of space inside the six yard box and only a good block from Rogers stopped the striker. Vale's first effort of the match saw King burst down the right and from his cut back Brian Smith saw his effort stopped by his namesake in the "Rabs" goal.

Vale on a poor day

As the heavy rain came on Vale's chances diminished as the home side took the lead 5 minutes from the interval. Gallagher was allowed to break on the left and after cutting inside past three challenges his low shot was spilled by the diving Rogers.

The Vale keeper was indecisive completing the clearance and GALLAGHER followed up to smash the rebound into the net. After 43 minutes Smith turned Ward's effort around the post for a corner and from Brown's cross Wardle headed down only for Meechan to head narrowly past.

Right on the stroke of the half time whistle Rogers dropped a harmless cross and striker O'Donnell, with all the time in the world to walk the ball into the net, sent his effort past the post.

The striker made amends for his amazing miss by adding the vital 2nd goal just 4 minutes after the break. There seemed little danger as Bell crossed from the right until O'DONNELL'S looping header beat Rogers from 12 yards range.

Any hope Vale had of taking something from this match had gone with that early strike and as Vale threw caution to the wind only some woeful finishing from the home side restricted the score to 2.

On what was a poor day only Jim Meechan could take any credit for his performance over the 90 minutes.

Team: Rogers; Lacy, Wardle, Meechan, Goodwin; Hunter (Boal), King, Alan Brown, Ward (McKenzie); Smith, Wilson (McKernan). SUBS NOT USED - MacLaurin, Anton Brown.
