Kilsyth Rangers 5-2 Vale of Leven
Kilsyth: Logan (37, 86), P. Campbell (67, 75), Glazier (73)
Vale: Deeley (64), McKernan (88)
Man of the match: Alan Brown

Duncansfield Park. Monday 20th May, 2002. Kick off: 7.15pm
Abercorn Builders Central League Division 1

Vale made a dreadful start to this fixture with this demoralising defeat at Duncansfield. Without Brian Wardle who was starting a seven-match ban Vale also had to do without top scorer David Meechan who misses the final four games of the season having accumulated 18 penalty points. The loss of both players would clearly be a hindrance to Vale's hopes of avoiding relegation.

After a fairly even first period the wee "Gers" took the lead after 37 minutes. Vale had struggled to clear the ball properly and Logan picked up the loose ball at the edge of the area before firing in a low shot that Maclaurin really should have saved.

The keeper redeemed himself moments later with a fine save denying Glazier who had tried to go round him. In first half injury time Deeley played in Wilson who should have scored but keeper Brunton did well to block his effort.

The Millburn men started the second half in a more positive fashion and after Jim Meechan and Wilson both came close to scoring Vale grabbed an equaliser after 64 minutes. Goodwin and Boal combined on the right and from the latter's cross Brian Deeley headed home at the back post.

At this point Vale had gained the upper hand but just three minutes later slackness allowed P. Campbell a glimpse of goal on the right and his low shot flew across the goal and nestled in the far corner of the net.

Vale were stunned at the loss of a quick goal and a further 6 minutes later they were in deeper trouble when a corner from the right was headed home from 2 yards by the unmarked Glazier. After 75 minutes it became 4-1 when the home side netted their 3rd goal in an 8 minute spell. P. Campbell's curling right foot free kick from 20 yards finding the back of the net. Logan grabbed his own second of the evening when he broke free to take the ball around Maclaurin after 86 minutes.

With two minutes remaining substitute Scott McKernan pulled a goal back with a low shot from 12 yards.

Team: Maclaurin; Lacy (Dalrymple), Smith, J.Meechan, Goodwin; Boal, Brown, Deeley, Hunter; Wilson, Ward (McKernan). Unused subs: Dennison & Howie.
