East Kilbride Thistle 3-0 Vale of Leven
East Kilbride: Gow O.G. (18), Watson (26), Fellowes (52)
Man of the match: Matthew Maclaurin
The Show Park, Saturday 1st December. Kick off: 1.45pm
Abercorn Builders Central League Division 1

Vale suffered their fifth consecutive away league defeat at the hands of East Kilbride at the Show Park on Saturday and further added to their relegation worries. The only good point being the fact that the three teams beneath them all lost as well.

If the result was hardly the ideal preparation for this weeks forthcoming Scottish Cup tie then the performance must be giving the Vale boss nightmares.

How a side can go from the highs of the previous two weeks to the lows on of Saturday is beyond belief. With more or less an unchanged line up the level of performance was well short of what is expected and ended with Vale getting exactly what they deserved - nothing.

  Matthew Maclaurin
Maclaurin had a busy
day in the Vale goal

The home side, who won promotion last season, were first to threaten and following a move up the left the ball was played across field for Shearer to strike a 20 yard drive that was tipped over the bar by Maclaurin.

Vale should have gone ahead after 6 minutes when Lacy headed clear a corner and Dougie Wilson raced up field from well inside his own half past a couple of defenders and with Meechan alongside him he shot for goal himself and keeper Moy blocked the ball for a corner. After 12 minutes Vale's Dalrymple failed to recover from a hefty knock and was replaced by Kevin Goodwin.

Worse was to follow as the Jags took the lead 6 minutes later. Lees threw a long throw into the Vale six yard area and Stevie Gow got his head to the ball but only succeeded in helping it into the net past his own keeper.

The home side seemed to be well on top and Falconer drifted away from the defence to send a shot rebounding from the base of the upright after 25 mins.

A minute later Watson broke clear on the right and although Maclaurin made a good save to block his first effort the striker followed up to side foot the rebound home.

At the interval Vale made a second substitution with Boal replacing Wilson in attack. Within minutes however Maclaurin had to make a good save to stop Brogan netting as East Kilbride kept up the pressure.

After 52 minutes Maclaurin was helpless when Boal tried to play his way out of trouble at his own corner flag but only succeeded in passing the ball straight to a home player, who in turn crossed for Fellowes to tap the ball into the net to secure all three points.

Vale did have chances to grab a consolation goal but they either lacked accuracy or power in front of goal. At the other end Maclaurin kept the score down as Vale were continually caught on the break.

Best for Vale were Hunter, David Meechan and man of the match Maclaurin.

Team: Maclaurin; Gow, Wardle, J. Meechan; Lacy, Dalrymple (Goodwin), Brown, Hunter; D. Meechan, Ritchie (Renton), Wilson (Boal). Unused subs: McKernan, Ward.
